Arup Offices - Fitzroy Street London

What started as an energy efficiency project to replace phased-out halogen and fluorescent lamps quickly grew into a comprehensive circular-economy strategy. Instead of purchasing brand new LED fittings, Arup investigated whether the existing lighting infrastructure could be kept and remanufactured. Partnering with The Regen Initiative, they conducted detailed surveys to determine which luminaires were suitable for conversion.

The Clients Brief

The primary consultation revolved around the existing office lighting - Zumtobel ML4 1200mm x 300mm Fluorescent luminaires and a sensible way to upgrade to LED.  After consultation and product evaluation, the practical solution was to try and upgrade the products on site rather than remove for external off site works.

Sample Evaluation

The REGEN Initiative evaluated a sample luminaire offsite, analysing multiple designs to find the most practical approach. After defining the remanufacturing scope, they engineered the LED conversions and produced "golden samples" for approval. This process successfully verified both regulatory compliance and maintained lighting levels

The LED Light Module

The solution featured a single LED light module equipped with a custom gear tray held securely in place by strong neodymium magnets. Tridonic LED boards, frosted diffusers, and matching DALI drivers delivered perfectly homogeneous illumination. Thanks to the magnetic fixing mechanism, the installation was fast and straight forward for CBRE electrical contractors.
