Arup Reception and Foyer Lighting upgrade to RGBW LED

The REGEN Initiative was invited to consult on the sustainable remanufacturing of the client's iconic reception and circulation zone lighting. Seeking a highly circular approach, the client aimed to preserve as much of the original, historic lighting material as possible. In response, we conducted a comprehensive feasibility study on product samples and delivered a detailed report outlining potential restoration and upgrade options.

Full Colour Spectrum Illumination

The existing lighting contained multiple rows of fluorescent lamps, some with coloured coatings to provide basic RGB illumination. The client wanted more colour diversity and controllability when connected to the upgraded Simmtronic Dali Control system.  The final results pictured here, provided full colour spectrum illumination that highlights Arups LGBTQ+ inclusive policies and practices.

White Lighting

As well as the advanced colour spectrum illumination, The café and general ground floor circulation areas require pure white light to provide optimal general illumination. This crisp, clean lighting strategy ensures high visibility, enhances spatial clarity, and creates an inviting, vibrant atmosphere for visitors navigating the high-traffic zones of the building

Design

In collaboration with FMARK, we designed and manufactured a bespoke gear tray housing both RGB and independent white LED units and integrating long-life emergency kits where needed. By utilising a specialised reeded transparent diffuser, we perfectly matched the optical output to the symmetry of the original luminaire design. This eliminated light pooling and delivered a highly homogeneous light distribution.

Full Colour Spectrum Lighting

Utilising high-quality RGB+W LED modules provided the client with endless colour options and superior controllability. This upgrade delivered significant energy savings compared to the original fluorescent fixtures, while also drastically reducing future recycling and disposal costs.
