Alexandra Palace Park Lighting
The Alexandra Palace park lighting originally featured SON high-pressure sodium gas-discharge lamps, which produced a signature bright, golden-yellow glow. To preserve the park's traditional, historic character, REGEN was tasked with upgrading the fixtures to modern LED technology while carefully maintaining that ultra-warm colour temperature.

The Brief & Design Challenge
The client required a sensitive refurbishment of these historic Windsor lanterns, aiming to preserve their traditional architectural heritage while modernising their performance. A primary objective was to significantly reduce light pollution and sky glow in line with modern environmental standards.
The Sustainable Solution
To meet these criteria, the REGEN light engine was strategically designed to position the light source at the very top of the lantern. This specific orientation maximises downward illumination and drastically cuts down on unwanted upward, indirect glare.
Installation & Efficiency
Upgrading historic infrastructure can be time-consuming, so ease of installation was built directly into the product design. The new bespoke LED Light Engine mounts seamlessly onto the lantern's existing internal metal trays. By eliminating the need for structural modifications, this custom fit significantly accelerated the reinstallation process, minimised labour costs, and reduced disruption on-site.

Design
The LED upgrade featured a new lantern backplate with a custom cut-out to house the new LED assembly. It included pre-wired, IK09 and IP66-rated LED modules with optical CCT lenses operating at 1900K. This colour temperature successfully replicated the original warm glow of the traditional SON-E 70W lamps. Additionally, an opal polycarbonate diffuser was mounted to the front face to eliminate LED chip spotting and deliver uniform illumination.

The fixture features a specialised Vossloh Schwabe IP66 LED module selected specifically for this application. By combining high-output, high-efficiency LED boards with a robust enclosure, this design ensures long-lasting durability and performance.

Colour correction lenses were added to warm white 2200°K LED Chips. This brought the CCT down to 1900°K creating a ultra warm glow across the Palace park.
