Overview
There is a need to reduce energy and carbon consumption from within our existing built environment. 80% of the buildings that exist today will still be here in 2050. To this end, simply throwing away old luminaires and replacing with new is not a sustainable solution. There is a need to reduce energy, carbon and perfectly good product entering the waste steam. This can be achieved by Remanufacturing existing luminaires and upgrading them to LED. The Regen Initiative has worked on multiple projects since forming in late 2021. Common to many projects, and coupled with the introduction of the ban on manufacture of fluorescent lamps, is the need to Remanufacture linear fluorescent products and create a solution which allows this to happen at scale. As a result of extensive product development process, RESUS was created.
RESUS Features
RESUS IS NOT A LED REPLACEMENT TUBE - This mitigates all the risks and limited life associated with LED Tubes. The driver is sited remote of the RESUS product and occupies the space where the fluorescent ballast would have been situated, in most luminaires.
CONTROL AGNOSTIC – As the driver is remote, we can either align to the existing control protocol, or adopt a new wireless control solution as part of the project upgrade.
EMERGENCY COMPATIBLE – As the driver is remote, the emergency can also be easily upgraded RETROFITTING – In the standard product, the end caps have lamp pins that mimic linear fluorescent lamps. These are then utilised to retain the RESUS product in the luminaire. This is for mechanical purposes only. No electrical feed is supplied to the lampholder. This means if a product fails, it fails in a safe mode LEDS AND DRIVERS– These are supplied by EU branded and reputable sources WARRANTY – Warranties will be issued 5 years as standard. Extended warranty periods are possible, subject to negotiation. CIRCULAR ECONOMY– These principles are embedded and CIBSE TM66 score of 3.1, demonstrating ‘excellent circularity’
Scope of works
Fully embedded in circular economy principles, RESUS provides a luminaire design and control protocol agnostic upgrade solution, linear fluorescent to LED Emergency lighting can be fully accommodated. The materials used are from high percentage post-consumer recyclate. The end caps are rapid manufactured using 3D printing technology which not only eliminated tooling cost and material waste, but enabled rapid deployment of alternative end caps designs to integrate to specific luminaire architecture
CARBON
Carbon reduction / carbon avoidance
in selecting RESUS and applying in a remanufacturing process WASTE MITIGATION – Remanufacturing prevents existing materials and components from entering the waste stream. INNOVATION – Uses 3D printed end caps to be flexible in design without wasting plastic FUTURE PROOF– RESUS embraces Ecodesign principles, which means that RESUS can easily be replaced in future use phases and, at the end of life, is easy to remove, break down and recycle PHOTOMETRIC INTEGRITY– In most cases the photometric integrity of the original product is not affected by the fitting of RESUS. However, The Regen Initiative will evaluate this on a project[1]by-project basis VALIDATION – Every project should be assessed on its own merits. However, RESUS offers a consistent and repeatable solution for retro-fitting fluorescent luminaires with LED solutions RANGE – All T8 and T5 lamp lengths and lumen performances are available (see next slide). Many compact fluorescent lamp sources can also be accommodated
The RESUS LED Module was the gold and green winner of the Build Back Better Award in 2024 for demonstrating outstanding commitment in providing sustainable lighting solutions. For further information follow the attached link

The Resus offers a simple fluorescent-to-LED retrofit option for upgrading luminaires. Designed to fit the majority of existing T5 and T8 fluorescent fittings, its design allows it to pick up on existing fluorescent lamp holders, using them only as a mechanical fix.
All electronics are remote by the way of a remote driver allowing the product to be controls agnostic. Resus is designed to operate within any space where a fluorescent lamp once occupied.
It’s controls agnostic, meaning Resus can work within any building management system and will operate with any fixed output, DALI or wireless drivers, and will, as standard, operate with key switch, self-test and DALI monitored addressable emergency systems.
Resus features 3D-printed end caps which can be changed to suit T5, T8 and PLL lamp holders.
In an upgrade, the existing fluorescent lamp and driver are removed but that the original fitting remains in situ thus negating the need for the product to be placed through the e-waste stream and retaining all its embodied carbon.
The materials used in Resus contain a significant percentage of post-consumer recyclate and, other than cutting to length to suit the lamp dimensions, requires no post-finishing.
Self-assessment to TM66 scores the product at 3.1. The product is also assembled without the use of adhesives, resulting in the product being able to be repurposed and ultimately easily recycled at end of life, in line with circular economy principles.
